Barry is an architect and thought leader in multiple practice areas within the firm and leads one of Gensler’s Lifestyle studios carefully calibrated to improve the places we live, work, play, stay, and learn with a focus on Placemaking in Mixed Use, Planning, Education and Residential projects.
Passionate about bold ideas, Barry brings decades of diverse and deep architectural and planning leadership experience in local and international markets where he has developed an expertise directing large teams and complex placemaking projects. Keen attention to client service, design, project budgets, and technical/jurisdictional requirements are the foundation of his management approach; and allow him to successfully orchestrate complex project processes and components. Barry is visible as an industry thought leader and is frequently seen in speaking and writing engagements.
He is also active in various civic organizations serving on the board of Greater Dallas Planning Council, Downtown Dallas Inc, and on the executive committee of the board of directors for the Dallas Wind Symphony – a personal extra-curricular passion. Barry served a full eight-year term as Chair of the Planning Commission in Richardson; and he currently serves as an Adjunct Studio Critic for Texas Tech University’s College of Architecture. His interest in the influences of mixed-use redevelopment to revitalize decaying urban perimeters led to writing a semester long curriculum for the College of Architecture. Barry is a member of the Urban Design and Mixed-Use Product Council of the Urban Land Institute, International Council of Shopping Centers, and the American Planning Association.
