Victor Calanog is Global Head of Research and Strategy for Real Estate Private Markets at Manulife Investment Management. He previously served as Head of Commercial Real Estate Economics at Moody’s Analytics; prior to the acquisition by Moody’s in October 2018, he served as Chief Economist and Senior Vice President at REIS. Through all of his roles, Dr Calanog led the creation and implementation of estimation and forecasting models for real estate markets; valuation and risk platforms for portfolio analytics; and served as a key spokesperson for clients, the industry, and media through thought leadership initiatives.

Dr. Calanog’s work has received awards and fellowship support throughout his career, from the Ford Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, and centers for international business research. He served as contributor and peer reviewer for several academic journals, with scientific papers published in peer reviewed journals like the Journal of Banking & Finance, the Journal of the Risk Management Association, and the Journal of Property Investment & Finance. His assessments of market conditions have appeared in major international publications like the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Financial Times, and the Economist. His industry columns have won honors from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) and the Risk Management Association (RMA). He serves on the Mortgage Bankers Association’s CRE/Multifamily Finance Board of Governors, Affordable Housing Committee, and Investment Committee: as Managing Editor for the CRE Finance Council; and on the Economic Advisory Board and Board of Directors of the Counselors of Real Estate®. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and has published over 200 monographs, articles, and books on commercial real estate.

Dr. Calanog holds a PhD in Applied Economics and Management Science, trained by a dissertation committee composed of faculty from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Business School. In addition, he has an MBA in Finance and MA in Business and Public Policy, earning the Amy Morse Prize and Thomas P. Gerrity Leadership Award as the most distinguished PhD and MBA student in his class.
